So, I have finished my project at this point. Heres a step by step list of everything I did:
-I made flyers providing information about ADHD and how donations to the organization CHADD will help those affected by ADHD.
-I contacted various local stores to find out if I could leave collection jars and flyers in their stores. A few stores gave me permission for both, but many only allowed me to post flyers on their bulletin boards.
-I went door to door to collect money and handed out flyers to the donators.
-While doing door to door, I left flyers in the door handles at homes that were unresponsive.
-Additionally, I had tried to get clearance to set up a stand outside a local store to collect money and inform the community about ADHD one weekend, however they said I couldn’t do so.

Donations I collected for CHADD will help to provide support, education, community resources and information, ongoing research, and advocates for those affected by ADHD. In addition, by posting flyers in various places, I have created awareness about ADHD, informed the general public, and given people the opportunity to help on their own.

This project has taught me many things and in my opinion it was worth doing for numerous reasons.

I really enjoyed doing this alternative project. While the research paper may have been a pain in the butt, this alternative document really helped solidify me in my major. From going up and learning about teaching from observing my cousin, it really showed me that I definitely want to be an elementary teacher. It was funny just to hear some of the things the kids come up with, and I think I'll really enjoy having lots of those teaching stories when I'm old and gray. I am really glad that this is the route I chose for my alternative project because I just have to say again that observing her class was a lot of fun for me.

Progress Report

I volunteered at the York, PA Autism Fair on April 4th from 7am-9:30am. I am then participating in the Walk 4 Autism. It is April 25th 2009.
I have arranged with the Collinsville Library to give my presentation on Tuesday, April 21 at 1pm. I will be putting up a couple of posters advertising my presentation. The library is also going to run an ad in the local Star newspaper for the event. I am working on my poster and plan to have them up by tomorrow, April 9.
I went to the Autism Awareness Fair on saturday. I arriived at 7 am and stayed until 10. I had a lot of fun. I helped prepare the children's area and helped sign people's children into the area at 9 when it was opened to the public. I learned a lot about autism spectrum disorders from the parents and volunteers. I wish i could have stayed longer. I would like to attend next year.

At this point, I have altered the flyers I originally made, made numerous copies of them, and started handing them out and placing them in stores around the neighborhood. I have also put collection envelopes at a few businesses to collect money throughout the week, along with some flyers. The flyers include information about how the donations help ADHD children and some statistical information regarding ADHD in our area. Tommorrow I actually have plans on going door to door to take additional collections and inform people about the disorder.
I just finished observing my cousin teaching. It was very enjoyable and I got a lot of information and ideas for my presentation. I made a chart of the different learning styles and wrote down the activities that pertained to the learning style.
