Alternative Genre Project:
My alternative Genre project will be to volunteer at the York, Pennsylvania Autism Fair. I will be volunteering for the set up/prep portion of the fair as well as the clean up. Setup is from 7-9:00am and Tear down is from 2-4:00pm. I will spend the rest of my day wandering around the fair furthering my knowledge on the subject of autism and more specifically how it affects York, Pa. This will help the autism community as well as our local community in York. It relates to my paper because both deal with the basics of autism and how we can further research today. I have applied and been accepted as a volunteer at the Autism Fair. I will be performing set up from 7:00am-9:00am. Then, I will be touring the autism fair for the remainder of my available time.
For my alternative genre project I plan to raise money for ADHD children through the organization CHADD. Additionally, I would like to raise awareness about ADHD and its treatment. So far I've made flyers to hand out that provide a basis of what ADHD is and what can be done to help children with ADHD. I still plan to make collection jars to leave at businesses in the community, to make a poster board to set up outside a supermarket (for when I am collecting money there), and to go door to door and collect money from my neighbors.
For my alternative genre project I will be observing a classroom and seeing what kinds of activities and tools the teacher uses to get across to different learning styles. So far Prof. Waterhouse is helping me by trying to get me into an elementary school to observe.
